Sail from Labuan Bajo
You board in Labuan Bajo and cruise Komodo National Park with our crew aboard a Komodo Luxury phinisi.
A liveaboard Labuan Bajo trip is a multi-day cruise from Labuan Bajo into Komodo National Park, sleeping onboard while we move between the best dive and snorkel sites. Compared with day boats, a komodo liveaboard from Labuan Bajo lets you reach more remote north and south sites on the right tide and season, with sunrise and night dives far from the crowds.
Liveaboard Labuan Bajo: who we are & how our cruises work
I’m Raka Widnyana, Komodo Cruise Director at Liveaboard Labuan Bajo — the liveaboard division of Komodo Luxury. My focus is simple: match you to the right Komodo National Park liveaboard, on the right week, for the conditions, not the brochure.
Operated by Komodo Luxury
Liveaboard Labuan Bajo is operated by KOMODO LUXURY, an Indonesian company specialized in phinisi cruising in Komodo:
- Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025
- Founded in 2015 as part of Juara Holding Group Limited
- Legally registered in Indonesia under KBLI 79120 (tour operator services), head office Denpasar, Bali
- Owned fleet in Komodo: luxury phinisi Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige
From our base in Labuan Bajo, we run:
- Open trips (shared cabins, fixed dates) for certified divers and mixed dive/snorkel guests
- Private charters (whole-boat, custom dates) for dive clubs, families and groups
All embarkations and disembarkations are from Labuan Bajo, the gateway port to Komodo National Park.
What a Labuan Bajo liveaboard actually includes
On our Komodo liveaboard from Labuan Bajo you:
- Sleep onboard in air-conditioned ensuite cabins
- Move between key regions of Komodo National Park (central, north, and — on longer trips and the right season — south)
- Dive up to 3–4 times per day (certified divers), with night dives on many itineraries
- Join guided excursions to see Komodo dragons, Padar Island viewpoints, Pink Beach and manta spots
- Have all meals, snacks, water, coffee and tea included; park fees and some extras are additional
Compared with land-based day trips, a komodo national park liveaboard gives you:
- Earlier entries at popular sites (we sleep close by)
- Access to more remote sites with challenging currents
- Better flexibility to time dives around tides and visibility
Open trips vs private charters
We operate two main formats:
- Open trip liveaboard
- Share the boat and join a fixed itinerary, scheduled departures, per-person pricing. Ideal for couples, solo divers, and small groups who are flexible on dates.
- Private charter liveaboard
- Charter Komodo Signature or Komodo Prestige for your group only. You choose dates, trip length, dive vs leisure focus, and cabin allocation. Best for families, friends, underwater photographers and dive clubs.
On both types, we plan dive routing around:
- Season (north vs south Komodo)
- Your dive experience and certifications
- Moon phase and expected current strength
Indicative pricing ranges from Labuan Bajo
Our pricing varies by boat, season, cabin and trip length. As a guideline (last verified June 2026):
- Open trip diver packages: typically range from mid to upper mid-range per person for 3D2N, and scale reasonably for longer trips.
- Private charters: typically start from the low thousands of USD-equivalent per night for the whole boat, depending on vessel, season and inclusions.
These are only indicative bands. For an exact quote, contact our sales team via WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875 or email sales@komodoluxury.com, or plan your trip with our online enquiry.
Plan your cruise: interactive trip selector
On this page we can’t run code, but this is how our “plan your cruise” selector works on liveaboardlabuanbajo.com. You choose:
1. Trip type
- Open trip liveaboard – Shared boat, scheduled departures, social atmosphere.
- Private charter liveaboard – Full-boat charter, custom plan, flexible schedule.
- Day trip – One-day dive or snorkel outings from Labuan Bajo (limited range compared with liveaboards, but good if you’re short on time).
2. Trip length
We typically structure Labuan Bajo liveaboard diving trips as:
- 3D2N – Core “highlights” loop (central Komodo + dragons + manta when conditions allow).
- 4D3N – Adds more dives or extra land spots, plus better chance for both central and north in season.
- 5D4N and longer (up to 8 days) – Full north–central–south coverage in the right season, slower pace, extra night dives and repeat visits to your favorite sites.
3. Diver or non-diver
We need to know if you are:
- Certified diver (and your highest certification + number of logged dives)
- Discover Scuba / Try dive guest – we’ll advise if conditions allow and on which itineraries
- Snorkeler / non-diver – we adjust expectations and focus on snorkeling-friendly sites and land excursions
Many of Komodo’s signature sites have strong currents and are not suitable for intro divers. We are honest about this, and will not put you into conditions beyond your training.
4. Cabin preference
You can select:
- Master cabin vs standard cabin
- Double / twin / triple configurations where available
- Upper deck vs lower deck
Once you submit these preferences, our selector opens a WhatsApp chat pre-filled with your choices, so you can refine dates and pricing with our team in real time.
Choose your Labuan Bajo liveaboard trip
Below is an overview of our most popular options. We’ll tailor the details according to season and your experience level.
3D2N Komodo liveaboard from Labuan Bajo
Our most compact itinerary, ideal if you have limited time but still want a full Labuan Bajo liveaboard diving experience.
Typical focus (subject to conditions):
- Central Komodo dive sites with moderate currents
- Komodo dragon walk on either Komodo or Rinca Island
- Padar Island sunrise or sunset trek
- Snorkeling at a pink-sand beach
- At least one manta cleaning or feeding site when season and currents cooperate
For divers, 3D2N often gives 6–8 dives. We prioritise quality over quantity and will skip a dive if conditions are not safe.
4D3N Komodo liveaboard from Labuan Bajo
The “sweet spot” for many guests. A 4D3N trip balances time on the water, budget and coverage.
Typical additions vs 3D2N:
- Extra dives in central Komodo (e.g., repeat favorite sites or alternate reefs)
- Better chance to route into the north (in the right season) for fishier, more current-exposed sites
- More flexibility with tides for manta and shark-rich areas
Many divers log 10–11 dives on 4D3N, including at least one night dive conditions permitting.
5D4N to 8-day liveaboard itineraries
If you are a keen diver, underwater photographer or seasoned traveler, longer itineraries give Komodo the time it deserves.
What extended trips allow:
- North–central–south coverage in season, including cooler southern sites famous for different critters and soft coral gardens
- Multiple sunrise and night dives on premium sites
- Slower pace: more time for rest, editing photos and enjoying the boat
- Flex days to chase better visibility or mantas if conditions change
On these trips we become highly selective about matching sites to your group’s experience. Some of the more advanced pinnacles and seamounts are only appropriate for confident, current-ready divers.
Open trips vs private charters: what fits you?
| Feature | Open Trip | Private Charter |
|---|---|---|
| Guests onboard | Mixed individuals / small groups | Your group only |
| Dates | Fixed by our schedule | You choose (subject to availability) |
| Itinerary flexibility | Standard route with safety-based adjustments | Highly customizable within safety and park rules |
| Price format | Per person | Per boat per night |
| Best for | Solo travelers, couples, small groups | Families, friends, dive clubs, content creators |
| Vibes | Social but structured | Private, flexible, tailored |
If you’re unsure, message us on WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875 or plan your trip and I’ll help you weigh open vs private based on your group size and expectations.
Komodo highlights: what you can experience from a Labuan Bajo liveaboard
Komodo National Park was established in 1980 and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. It sits within the Coral Triangle, one of the richest marine biodiversity areas on the planet. A Labuan Bajo liveaboard is the most efficient way to see its variety.
Signature dive sites (by region)
Conditions in Komodo vary dramatically by tide, moon and season. The overview below is indicative only; final site choices depend on live conditions and your skill level.
Central Komodo
Central Komodo is the heart of most itineraries — a mix of reef, slopes, pinnacles and drift dives, usually accessible on 3D2N and 4D3N trips.
Examples include:
- Reefs with healthy hard corals, turtles and reef fish, often good for both divers and snorkelers.
- Drift dives along current-swept slopes, where we target slack or mild current windows.
- Night dive spots with octopus, crustaceans and hunting trevallies.
Central sites are typically suitable for Open Water divers with recent experience. However, currents can still be present; we brief thoroughly and occasionally limit certain dives to more experienced guests.
North Komodo
The north is famous for clear water, schooling fish, and stronger currents. Iconic pinnacles and seamounts here are usually classified as advanced.
Key points:
- Expect stronger currents, downdrafts and upwellings. Drift and negative entries are common entry types.
- Many dives here are only suitable for Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) with solid current skills.
- Depending on moon phase, we may restrict some sites to the most experienced divers onboard.
We never promise specific sites by name in advance; instead we describe the style of diving and adjust to conditions. Safety comes first; if a site is running too hard, we choose an alternative.
South Komodo
Southern Komodo and nearby islands are cooler, with nutrient-rich waters that support different marine life and soft corals.
Characteristics:
- Generally better in certain months of the year when seas and visibility are favorable.
- Typically included on 5D4N–8-day itineraries due to the extra distance from Labuan Bajo.
- Some sites are more sheltered, while others still feature strong currents; we choose based on your group’s profile.
Visibility in the south can be lower compared to the north, but the tradeoff is unique critters and colorful coral growth.
Manta encounters
Komodo is known for manta rays at certain cleaning and feeding stations. From a liveaboard we can time our visits around tides and traffic for:
- Drift dives where mantas often feed in current
- Cleaning stations where mantas circle over bommies
- Snorkeling encounters for non-divers (when conditions permit)
Mantas are wild and their presence is seasonal and weather-dependent. Sightings are never guaranteed, and any operator promising otherwise is not being honest. We share seasonality patterns during trip planning so your expectations are realistic.
Komodo dragons
Every multi-day liveaboard from Labuan Bajo includes at least one land visit to see Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, usually on either Komodo Island or Rinca Island.
What to expect:
- Guided ranger walk along marked trails
- Natural behavior: sometimes active, sometimes resting
- Strict safety protocols: you must follow ranger instructions at all times
Dragon activity varies with heat and time of day. Early mornings often provide more movement; in the hottest hours they may lie in the shade.
Padar Island, Pink Beach and scenic stops
Komodo is not only about diving:
- Padar Island: Short but steep hike to one of Indonesia’s most iconic viewpoints. We usually target sunrise or late afternoon for cooler temperatures and softer light.
- Pink Beach: A pink-hued sand beach caused by broken coral and foraminifera. Good for casual snorkeling and photography.
- Sandbars and bays: Depending on tides and your preferences, we anchor in calm bays for swimming, paddleboarding (when available) and sunsets.
These stops are integral parts of most itineraries, and we adjust their order based on weather and crowd levels.
Dive conditions, seasons and certification: an honest guide
Labuan Bajo liveaboard diving in Komodo is not like easy tropical resort diving. The park is famous precisely because currents bring nutrients and life — and those same currents demand respect.
Seasonal overview
Patterns can vary year to year, but broadly:
- April–November (drier months): Typically better surface conditions in many areas, popular for liveaboards. Northern Komodo often has clearer water; central remains consistent. Some southern sites are best in specific windows within this period.
- December–March (wetter months): More chance of rain and wind; certain sites may be less accessible. However, visibility and marine life can still be excellent in select regions, and there are usually fewer boats.
This is an indicative overview. We review updated local forecasts and seasonal trends when planning your actual route.
Currents and dive experience
Komodo is known for strong, changing currents, especially around islands, channels and seamounts. You may encounter:
- Horizontal currents (drift)
- Vertical components: upwellings and downcurrents
- Switching directions within the same dive
Our general recommendations:
- Non-divers / snorkelers: Welcome on most itineraries; we pick snorkel-friendly reefs and brief water entries carefully.
- Beginner divers (less than ~20 dives): Focus on central Komodo in milder conditions; we may limit your participation in advanced current sites.
- Open Water with 20–50 dives: Suitable for many routes; some north and south sites are possible depending on your comfort and conditions.
- Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) with recent current experience: Best positioned to enjoy the full range of Komodo’s advanced sites when conditions allow.
We may ask for recent logs or conduct a check dive to assess weighting, buoyancy and comfort. If at any point currents pick up beyond a safe margin, we abort or modify the dive.
Dive planning and safety onboard
On Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige we plan our dive deck operations with safety at the core:
- Trip and daily briefings covering currents, entry/exit, depth guidelines and emergency plans
- Group allocation by certification and comfort, not just by friendship group (you can still be on the same boat but dive different sites if needed)
- Surface support with tenders to pick you up after drift dives
- Oxygen, first aid and emergency equipment on board
We do not promise specific maximum depths or technical profiles online, because those depend on live conditions, diver experience and local regulations. These details are confirmed in-person during your briefing.
Our vessels: Komodo Signature & Komodo Prestige
Komodo Luxury owns and operates two luxury phinisi liveaboards serving Komodo National Park from Labuan Bajo: Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige.
We won’t list every cabin detail here — layouts and amenities evolve — but in broad terms both vessels offer:
- Traditional wooden phinisi construction paired with modern safety systems
- Air-conditioned guest cabins with private bathrooms
- Indoor saloon and outdoor lounge/dining areas
- Dedicated dive deck with rinse tanks and gear storage
- Professional Indonesian crew and licensed dive guides
On private charters, you can choose the vessel that best fits your group size, cabin needs and budget. On open trips, we assign boats based on schedule and capacity.
For up-to-date specifications and deck plans, our team will send you current fact sheets when you enquire.
Practicalities: Komodo National Park fees, permits and logistics
Park entry fees and permits
Komodo National Park charges various fees for:
- Park entry (different rates for domestic vs international visitors)
- Diving and snorkeling activities
- Ranger-guided walks to see Komodo dragons
- Camera fees for professional use in some cases
Fees change periodically and can be structured per day, per person, plus per boat. We strongly advise you to verify current rates close to your travel date. Our team will provide an updated estimate during your quote, based on the latest information available to us.
On most of our Labuan Bajo liveaboard diving trips, park fees are either:
- Added as a separate line item in your invoice, or
- Paid onboard in cash (IDR) at the start of the cruise, depending on the package
We clarify which system applies to your booking before you confirm.
What’s typically included vs excluded
Every trip proposal includes a clear breakdown, but as a general guide:
Usually included:
- Cabin accommodation onboard
- All meals and non-alcoholic drinks (water, coffee, tea; sometimes soft drinks)
- Diving for certified divers (tanks, weights, guide)
- Snorkeling for non-divers
- Land excursions in Komodo National Park as per itinerary
- Labuan Bajo airport or hotel transfers on embarkation/disembarkation days
Often excluded:
- Komodo National Park fees and permits (as described above)
- Equipment rental (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, computer, torch, etc.)
- Alcoholic beverages and some premium soft drinks
- Travel and dive insurance (highly recommended)
- Crew gratuities (optional but customary)
Exact inclusions depend on whether your trip is an open trip or private charter, and which vessel you choose.
Getting to Labuan Bajo
Labuan Bajo (airport code LBJ) is on Flores Island and is reachable by:
- Domestic flights via Bali (Denpasar), Jakarta and other major Indonesian hubs
- Occasionally by long-distance ferry (not recommended for tight schedules)
We advise arriving in Labuan Bajo at least one day before your liveaboard departure to buffer against flight delays. The same applies after the trip: avoid booking tight same-day onward flights.
How to choose the right liveaboard Labuan Bajo trip for you
Matching the right itinerary to your profile is where we focus our expertise.
Step 1: Clarify your priorities
Ask yourself:
- Is diving the main goal, or a mix of diving and island scenery?
- Are you traveling as a couple, solo, family or dive club?
- Do you prefer social trips or privacy?
- Are you comfortable in advanced current conditions, or do you prefer milder dives?
Share these answers with us — it shapes everything from boat choice to route.
Step 2: Match length and season
Rules of thumb:
- 3D2N: Good for first-time visitors short on time; central Komodo focus.
- 4D3N: Balanced option for most travelers; more diving and flexibility.
- 5D4N–8D: For serious divers and photographers wanting north and south in the right season.
For exact best months for your goals (e.g., higher chance of mantas, smoother seas, fewer boats), message us directly — patterns shift and we prefer not to oversimplify online.
Step 3: Confirm your dive profile
Please be honest about:
- Highest certification (e.g., Open Water, Advanced, Rescue)
- Number of logged dives and last dive date
- Any previous experience with drift or strong currents
We are not judging; we are trying to keep everyone safe and happy. Sometimes we recommend refreshing your skills with a local dive before joining certain itineraries, or steering you toward central-focused trips instead of the most exposed pinnacles.
Step 4: Request a tailored quote
Once you have rough dates and preferences, contact us for a custom plan:
- WhatsApp: +62 811-3823-875
- Email: sales@komodoluxury.com
- Or use our form at plan your trip
We reply with:
- Available boats and sailings that match your dates
- Indicative itinerary adjusted to your skill level and season
- Clear pricing ranges (last verified June 2026) and what’s included
- Current information on park fees and logistics
No one can pay to change what we publish; if you proceed with our partner they may pay us a referral fee at no extra cost to you.
Why book your Komodo National Park liveaboard through Liveaboard Labuan Bajo
1. Operator, not just agent
Liveaboard Labuan Bajo is the liveaboard arm of Komodo Luxury. We operate our own vessels (Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige), employ our own crews and dive guides, and physically sail these routes from Labuan Bajo throughout the year. You’re not dealing with a distant reseller guessing at conditions.
2. Dive-first, marketing-second
Our routing decisions prioritize:
- Seasonal patterns (north vs south windows)
- Expected tide and current safety
- The real skill level of divers onboard
If a famous site isn’t safe or appropriate for the group, we will say so and propose an alternative. We won’t over-promise or guarantee “all the famous sites” regardless of conditions.
3. Real awards and compliance
Komodo Luxury has been recognized with TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards from 2022 through 2025 and operates under Indonesian tourism regulations as KBLI 79120. We stay updated on park rules, safety standards and best practices for environmental impact.
4. Integrated, human planning
Because our sales, operations and onboard teams work under the same organization, the itinerary we describe during planning is grounded in what we can realistically do that week. You’re welcome to ask detailed questions about currents, tides and likely daily schedules — this is exactly what I do as Cruise Director.
5. Balanced experience for divers and non-divers
Many groups are mixed: some certified divers, some snorkelers, some just onboard to enjoy the islands. We design Labuan Bajo liveaboard diving itineraries that:
- Offer quality diving for experienced guests
- Keep non-divers engaged with islands, beaches and snorkeling
- Allow everyone to share the headline experiences: dragons, Padar, pink sand and, hopefully, manta rays
If your group is heavily dive-focused or entirely non-divers, we adapt the balance accordingly — especially on private charters.
For tailored advice on the right liveaboard Labuan Bajo cruise for you, message our team on WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875 or plan your trip now. Tell us your dates, dive experience and what you most want from Komodo; we’ll build the trip around that.
FAQs about Labuan Bajo liveaboards in Komodo
What is a Labuan Bajo liveaboard?
A Labuan Bajo liveaboard is a multi-day cruise that departs from Labuan Bajo and stays overnight onboard a vessel while exploring Komodo National Park. You eat, sleep and relax on the boat, moving between dive sites, snorkeling spots and islands such as Komodo, Rinca and Padar. This lets you reach more remote areas and time dives for better conditions than most day trips can.
How many days do I need for a Komodo liveaboard from Labuan Bajo?
We recommend a minimum of 3 days/2 nights to experience central Komodo, dragons, a viewpoint hike and several dives. Four days/three nights is ideal for most guests, giving more dives and flexibility for north or additional sites. Serious divers and photographers often choose 5–8 days to cover north, central and south in the right season and at a more relaxed pace.
Should I choose an open trip or a private charter?
Choose an open trip if you’re a solo traveler, couple or small group who enjoys meeting others and can fit fixed departure dates. Opt for a private charter if you want the whole boat for your group, prefer custom dates and routing, or are organizing a family holiday or dive club trip. Both formats share our same safety standards and crew professionalism.
How do I book a Labuan Bajo liveaboard with you?
Start by sending us your approximate dates, group size and dive experience via WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875, email at sales@komodoluxury.com, or through our online form at plan your trip. We’ll propose suitable boats and itineraries, share current pricing ranges and park fee information, and then guide you through reservation, deposit and pre-trip preparation.
Is Komodo suitable for beginner divers?
Parts of Komodo are suitable for beginners, especially in central areas under mild conditions, but many famous sites in the north and some channels are advanced due to strong and changing currents. If you have limited experience, we design more conservative itineraries, may avoid the most challenging sites, and sometimes recommend gaining a few additional dives before tackling advanced areas. Your safety and comfort come first.
